ROCKY MOUNT – Ellie Ayscue Collins, age 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 6, 2022. Born in Vance County, NC on November 30, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Robert Thomas Ayscue and Minerva Overton Ayscue. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 ½ years, Raymond Alton “Skeeter” Collins; her brothers, Fred Stanley Ayscue and Dr. Alfred Thomas Ayscue and wife, Hazel; and her niece, Lori Phillips.

Ellie retired after many years of service as an office manager with Pilot Life Insurance Company. She was a dedicated and faithful Christian and was a longtime member of Dortches Baptist Church where she graciously served in many capacities to include Choir Director and Youth Ministry. Ellie was instrumental in establishing the Hanging of the Green Service in the church. She enjoyed being part of the Harmony Bells which was a woman’s a capella group. Ellie loved the beach and fishing on the pier at Lake Gaston. She was a vocal supporter in all of her grandchildren’s sport activities.

Ellie is survived by her sons, Lennie Collins of Wilmington and Jeffrey Collins and wife, Patty, of Cape Carteret; her grandchildren, Adam Collins and wife, Caroline and Olivia Collins Harter and husband, Jeff; her great-granddaughters, Abigail Katelyn Collins and Ellie Elizabeth Collins; her sister-in-law, Jeanne Ayscue; her nephew and nieces, Stan Ayscue, Cindy Cutright, and Debbie Creech.

The family would like to acknowledge her niece, Debbie Creech for all of the grace, love, care and support she had for Ellie.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Ellie’s life will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at 2:30 PM at Dortches Baptist Church, 4776 Dortches Blvd., Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Rev. Chet Rains and Pastor Rick Gaksins officiating. Entombment will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Chapel on the Hill Mausoleum. A visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service in the Family Life Center of Dortches Baptist Church.
