Alice Covington Coker

WHITAKERS – Alice Covington Coker, age 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 18, 2023. Born in Stanley County, NC on July 10, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Adolphus Monroe Covington and Lorena Shepherd Covington. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Theodore “Ted” Coker, Jr.; her son, Edward “Eddie” Earle Coker; and her brothers, Bill Covington, Wayne Covington, Thomas Covington.

Alice was a woman of strong faith and was also deeply involved in her community. She dedicated herself to Arlington Baptist Church of Rocky Mount, where she served in various roles such as library volunteer, social committee member, and choir singer. In her younger years, Alice also taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school. Beyond her church activities, Alice was an active member of the Whitakers Lions Club, contributing to community associations, charities, and nonprofits. She had a passion for cooking and even did catering for a while, specializing in wedding cakes and food for anniversary parties. In her free time, Alice enjoyed pursuing her lifelong hobbies of crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Despite being 87 years old, she remained determined and continued to work at Americap in Enfield, where she had a positive impact on the lives of those around her.

Alice is survived by her son, Lonnie Coker and wife, Cindy; her daughter-in-law, Cindy Frazier Coker; her grandchildren, Christin Coker Brantley and husband, Scott, Edward “Justin” Coker, and Megan Coker Swartz; her great-grandchildren, Sara Dawes, Wyatt Brantley, Braden Coker, Aubrey Coker, and Kaden Coker; her brother, Robert Covington and wife, Debbie; her sisters, Elizabeth Fouty and Anne Brocatto; and numerus nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Alice’s life will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Arlington Baptist Church, 1500 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803 with Pastor Mike Stamper officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. A visitation will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM prior to the service in the Sanctuary of Arlington Baptist Church.
