John Crosson Coats, Jr.

John Crosson Coats, Jr., age 85, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2021. Born in Rocky Mount, NC on November 23, 1935, he was the son of the late John Crosson Coats, Sr. and Amanda Dudley Coats. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Marvin Lee Coats; his sister, Dannie Carter; and a son, John Randy Coats.

John Worked most of his career with Phillips Fibers Corporation where he made many friends. He was a radio-controlled airplane enthusiast and an expert at building R/C planes. Many people over the years came to him to learn to fly planes. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. John never met a stranger. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friends to all that knew him.

John is survived by his wife, Shirley Smith Coats; his sons, Robert Anthony Coats and Martin Lynn Coats; his sisters-in-law, Nellie Peele and Carole Coats; special friend, Lee Newcomb; and many nieces and nephews.

John had requested that there not be a public funeral or burial service. He will have a private burial at Rocky Mount Memorial Park and be laid to rest beside his mother and son.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the family is requesting no at home visits except for family with prior arrangement via phone.
