Obituary
ROCKY MOUNT – Leroy Glenn Hayes, Sr., age 81, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2019. Born in Wilson County, NC on March 6, 1938, he was the son of the late Roy Lee Hayes and Rosa Lee Boyette Hayes. He was also preceded in death by his son, Lawerence Eugene Hayes; sisters, Bettie Jean Hayes Wiggins and Shirley Anne Hayes Whitely.
Leroy worked on his family farm prior to enlisting in the North Carolina Army National Guard, from which he retired as a Maintenance Sergeant following over 20 years of dedicated service. After his retirement from military service, he went on to work as a mechanic Tyco Industrial Company. Along with his wife, Leroy was a faithful member of Englewood Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, a dedicated father and grandfather, and good friend to many. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten by all those who knew him.
Leroy leaves behind to cherish his memory, wife of 41 years, Elizabeth Marie Parks Hayes; sons, Randy Allen Hayes of Fayetteville, Leroy Glenn Hayes, Jr. of Fayetteville, and Leroy Wayne Hayes of Rocky Mount; and daughter, Kim Reed and husband, Wilbert, of Fayetteville. He is also survived by grandchildren, Daniel Lee Hayes, Amber Marie Hayes, Kathleen Nicole Smith, and Melissa Thomas and husband Aaron; and brother, Ralph E. Hayes of Smithfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Royce Williams officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
