ROCKY MOUNT – Miriam Knowles Minges joined our daddy, Harold Dixon Minges, on March 13, 2018. Mother was born on November 13, 1924, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, to Ethel R. and James W. Knowles. She was a graduate of Rocky Mount Senior High School in 1942 and Women’s College (UNC-G) in 1946 with a BS in Music.
Music was always her passion. She taught piano in the public schools and even played piano at the White House while President Truman was in office. Her love for music continued as shown by her dedication to Trinity Lutheran Church as the organist for over fifty years. Mother became a Realtor in 1969 and was named Realtor of the Year in 1982. She was a member of the Rocky Mount Board of Realtors, N.C. State Board of Realtors and National Board of Realtors. Throughout her career, she received numerous awards. Known for her gift of gab, Mother never met a stranger, welcomed any and everyone into her home, and became a public speaker in area civic clubs. She also served as Area Chairman of the Heart Fund, Mother’s March of Dimes, Tar River Lung Association, Cancer Society, and volunteered at Braswell Memorial Library.
